Fibrosis is estimated to contribute to approximately 45% of all-cause mortality in the developed world. It can occur across nearly every tissue and organ system, progressively impairing organ function and contributing to serious diseases affecting the lungs, kidneys, liver, gastrointestinal tract and other parts of the body.
The Need for a New Approach
Fibrosis occurs when the body’s normal repair response becomes dysregulated, leading to the persistent accumulation of scar tissue and progressive loss of organ function. Despite decades of research, many fibrotic diseases still have limited treatment options, underscoring the need for approaches that address the biological processes driving progression.
